The directory tracks 81,141 active businesses across 1,531 cities in all 50 states, in three categories:
Body shops (collision repair, dent removal, paint work) make up just over half of the market. General repair shops that also handle body work account for another 41%, and dismantlers/recyclers — the used parts supply chain — round out the remaining 8%.
When are body shops actually open?
The standard weekday. 48% of shops open at exactly 8:00 AM, and 5:00 PM is the most common close.
56.4% open Saturdays, but noon–2 PM closings dominate. Saturday is a half-day in this industry.
Average total open time per shop (median 50.0). Sundays are near-universally closed — only 7.7% open.
Methodology
Statistics are computed from the Auto BodyShop Near directory database — 81,141 active US auto-body-related business listings — as of July 10, 2026. Counts, categories, and geographic figures cover the full directory. Rating statistics are based on a 1,351-shop enriched sample with aggregated public review data; opening-hours statistics are based on 1,629 shops with verified hours. Samples skew toward high-traffic metro areas, and California is over-represented in the directory relative to other states.
The underlying directory is browsable at autobodyshopnear.com and machine-readable via the free public API (no key required), with official Node.js and Python SDKs.
